BIOGRAPHY
Born in Athens in 1937, has his origins in the Greek island of Paxos.
He traveled a lot in the world and returned in Greece in 1975 and to his island
in 1995.
Being a self-taught painter, (he started painting as a young man while in the
Greek Merchant Marine) he was left free to experiment on techniques, methods,
styles.
He represented in his work his island landscapes, the tower-houses on cliff-tops
overlooking a sea painted intensely blue, the tiny villages full of houses with
a somehow individual personality, showered by a sunset light radiating warmth;
but he also painted with rich red, yellow, orange and purple thick brush strokes
ladies forms, Afghans in turbans, New Yorkers in suits, or New Orleans saxophone
players.
The artist is occasionally taking part in exhibitions in Athens, Milan, Paris
and Lecce. Every August the Municipality of Paxos organizes and exhibition of
his work, the proceeds of which are offered to the realization of a cause
concerning the local community.
Vasilis Romanos carries the soul of his island on his brush stroke: silent,
harsh, proud, disobedient, lonely, distant but at the same time full of joy,
warmth and inner beauty, available to anyone tenacious enough to get to know the
artist, his work and Paxi.

BIOGRAFIA
Nato ad Atene nel 1937, ha le sue origini e il greco isola di Paxos.
Ha viaggiato molto nel mondo ed č tornato in Grecia nel 1975 e alla sua isola
nel 1995.
Essere un pittore autodidatta, (ha iniziato a dipingere come un giovane uomo
Mentre nella marina mercantile greco) č stato lasciato libero di sperimentare
sulle tecniche, i metodi, gli stili.
Ha rappresentato il suo lavoro e la sua isola paesaggi, le case-torri sulla
rupe-cime affaccia su un mare blu dipinto intensamente, i minuscoli villaggi
piena di case con una qualche personalitą del singolo, ricoperto di un tramonto
la luce che irradia il calore, ma ha anche dipinto con ricche Rosso, giallo,
arancione e viola spesse pennellate onorevoli forme, afgani e turbanti,
newyorchesi e si adatta, o New Orleans sassofono giocatori.
L'artista č talvolta prendono parte a mostre di Atene, Milano, Parigi e Lecce.
Ogni agosto, il Comune di Paxos organizza esposizioni e del suo lavoro, i
proventi di cui sono offerti per ristabilire la realizzazione di una causa
riguardante la comunitą locale.
Vasilis Romanos trasporta l'anima della sua isola per il suo pennello:
silenzioso, duro, orgoglioso, disobbedienti, solitari, lontano, ma allo stesso
tempo pieno di gioia, il calore e la bellezza interiore, a disposizione di
chiunque tenace abbastanza, per imparare a conoscere l'artista, Il suo lavoro e
Paxi.

ΒΙΟΓΡΑΦΙΚΟ
Γεννημένος στην Αθήνα το 1937, έχει τις ρίζες του
στους Παξούς
Ταξίδεψε πολύ στον κόσμο και επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα το 1975 και στο νησί του το
1995.
Όντας αυτοδίδακτος ζωγράφος, (άρχισε στα νιάτα του εργαζόμενος στο ελληνικό
εμπορικό ναυτικό) αφέθηκε ελεύθερος να πειραματιστεί στις τεχνικές, μεθόδους,
μορφές.
Παρουσίασε στην εργασία του τα τοπία του νησιού του, τα σπίτια -πύργους στις
κορυφές του βράχου πάνω από μια θάλασσα βαμμένη έντονα μπλε, τα μικροσκοπικά
χωριά γεμάτα σπίτια με ατομική προσωπικότητα, που πλημμυρίζονται από το φως του
ηλιοβασιλέματος ακτινοβολώντας ζεστασιά. Αλλά επίσης ζωγράφισε με πλούσιες
κόκκινες, κίτρινες, πορτοκαλί, και μοβ χοντρές πινελιές γυναικείες μορφές,
Αφγανούς με τουρμπάνια, Νεοϋορκέζους με κοστούμια, μουσικούς σαξόφωνου της Νέας
Ορλεάνης.
Ο καλλιτέχνης έχει κατά καιρούς λάβει μέρος σε εκθέσεις στην Αθήνα, το Μιλάνο,
το Παρίσι και στο Lecce της Ιταλίας.
Κάθε Αύγουστο ο δήμος Παξών οργανώνει και έκθεση της εργασίας του, οι εισπράξεις
της οποίας προσφέρονται στην πραγματοποίηση ενός φιλανθρωπικού σκοπού που αφορά
την τοπική κοινότητα.
Ο Βασίλης Ρωμανός μεταφέρει την ψυχή του νησιού του στις πινελιές του: σιωπηλές,
σκληρές, υπερήφανες, απειθείς, μοναχικές, απόμακρες αλλά ταυτόχρονα γεμάτες
χαρά, ζεστασιά και εσωτερική ομορφιά, στη διάθεση οποιουδήποτε επιμένει αρκετά
για να γνωρίσει τον καλλιτέχνη, τους Παξούς και το έργο του.
