"The Surrender of Breda" by Diego Velázquez

"The Surrender of Breda", also known as "The Lances," is one of Diego Velázquez's most famous and celebrated works. Completed in 1634–1635, this large oil painting is part of the series created to decorate the Hall of Realms in the Buen Retiro Palace in Madrid. It depicts the historical event of the surrender of the Dutch city of Breda to the Spanish in 1625 during the Eighty Years' War.
